The UK’s Action Beat is the ultimate no-wave big band: with a line-up varying from one to four drummers, at least four guitars, and anything else used by a rock band; they create a spellbound mix of hard rock and rhythmic dissonance. The mush produced by the orchestra owes much to early Sonic Youth, the guitar symphonies of Glenn Branca and the violence of The Boredoms.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti sounds like a forgotten pop-genius on shortwave radio: throw all the B-sides of David Bowie, Roxy Music, Frank Zappa, Brian Eno, The Smiths and a number of forgotten new-wave hits into a lo-fi bath and you get a vague psychedelia that comes close to the music Ariel Pink makes on his worn-out four track. The man, just as gaga his music, appears live with his Haunted Graffiti, and is also not averse to dresses, make up and luminous tambourines. For all fans of Animal Collective’s madness and beyond.

The American group, Borbetomagus, is an anything-but-ordinary free jazz / improv trio that redirects the legacy of Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane, Albert Ayler and others into a massive block of noise and grants the term “power-blowing” a completely new meaning. The two saxophonists and guitarists vigorously defend their honour of being one of the most influential noise groups, with an impressive career that spans over 30 years.
