MER. Station 11

Adriaan Verwée

SU 29.03 — SA 13.06 2015

MER.Station is a series of nomadic curatorial experiments by MER. Paper Kunsthalle that explore the possibilities to envision artists’ books in non-book related environments. For MER.Station 11 artist Adriaan Verwée has been invited to develop a presentation.

In the spirit of the wine bottle’s ‘soul’—that rounded indentation in the base which allows sediment to accumulate around it—artist Adriaan Verwée (°1975 Ghent) explores the possibilities for translating his artist’s book under a poor cloak you commonly find a good drinker back into a spatial intervention. Starting from the individuality of his practice, which is characterized by a particular interest in architecture, a startling process of transformation takes place. With a powerful physical gesture, the artist demolishes the sculptural contours of the Netwerk Museum and allows a new installation to rise from the ruins. The remains of the presentation material are reorganized in the new order and supplemented by new works created specifically for the site. These objects in turn relate to the soul of the publication, the hollow space in which artistic sediment accumulates.
