solo exhibition

Anouk De Clercq

SA 12.11 — SA 17.12 2005

Opening on November 12th 2005 Netwerk / center for contemporary art, presents the work of Anouk De Clercq. Apart from already existing pieces she will show in première in Netwerk a new project called 'typospace’ which she produced in collaboration with Dominique Callewaert. The exhibition will focus on a number of artists with whom De Clercq has collaborated in the past. The exhibition is a survey of projects that have come together often as the result of a dialogue between De Clercq and others (musicians especially).

A similar focus takes ##Event#04:ACT:267##, a program Netwerk organizes in dialogue with the artist for December 2nd. That night Log – the new publication on the work of Anouk De Clercq – will be presented.

Anouk De Clercq (Ghent, °1971) has been working on her wilful oeuvre for quite some time now. Her earliest artistic work she realized for dance and theater companies (e.g. The Wooster Group). In 2002 she presented a highly acclaimed video animation during the Prix Jeune Peinture Belge in Brussels. For Netwerk she presented in 2004 ‘Horizon’, a journey through a minimalistic landscape. The presentation of this digital installation was the occasion on which Netwerk invited Anouk De Clercq for an individual exhibition.

De Clercq’s digital video’s often emerge as the result of a collaboration with artists from different disciplines: visual artists, architects and composers of electronic music. Still her work retains a very personal touch. She describes the pieces as ‘interior landscapes' in which image, music and text take the spectator on a trip through an endless and fascinating landscape, that in the end appears to be completely imaginary.
What I’m involved in is quite simple: I want to build a concept that allows me to visualize my emotions using abstract forms, according Anouk De Clercq.
