The Briton Michael J. Oakeshott (1901-1990) is considered one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. Through his career at the London School of Economics, he was mainly known as a conservative philosopher of history, legal philosopher and political scientist. Though it is less known that besides his socio-historical ideas he also had a theory of aesthetics.

Along with publisher, Het Balanseer, Netwerk organizes a series of interactive lectures on Oakeshott’s aesthetics. His prominent essay, The Voice of Poetry in the Conversation of Mankind (1959), is interpreted by philosopher, Christophe de Landtsheer, who will subsequently lead an interactive dialogue between panellist Marc Kregting and the audience.

Each session covers an introductory text interpretation, a panel discussion and a public debate.

You can download the English version of The Voice of Poetry here.
The discussions will be in Dutch.
