MARK ERNESTUS PRESENTS JERI-JERI (SNG/DE)

In search of original recordings, the Berlin producer Mark Ernestus travelled to Senegal and Gambia in 2011 and eventually ended up in the famous Dakar studio with twenty of the most impressive Senegalese musicians. It was the start of an extraordinary collaboration between Ernestus, the Sabar-rhythm section, JERI-JERI, and guest musicians, Mbalax, from the world of West African dance music.

In addition to his selection for the compilation, Shangaan Electro: New Wave Dance Music From South Africa and his remixes for i.e. Afrobeat architect Tony Allen, Konono No. 1 and Shangaan Electro, in recent years Mark Ernestus has enthusiastically delved into Mbalax.

The musicians form a griot clan of sabar-drummers led by Bakane Seck from Kaolack (Senegal), with musicians including, Youssou N’Dour and Baaba Maal.

Trio Ocasional (BE/CL)

Last summer in rural Colombia artist Hans Bryssinck reluctantly explored his own potential as a Colombian folk singer. According to the rules of that art, he sang there along with a local trio, selected songs with a nationalistic angle. For this occasion he unites with Antonio and Giuliano Caffiero to form a new trio.
