Pilootprojecten Kunst in Opdracht

The City of Aalst and Netwerk have been selected as one of the five principals

The City of Aalst and Netwerk have been selected as one of the five principals for Pilot Projects Art in Commission with the theme, ‘More than Object’.

As joint principals in the Pilot Projects, the City of Aalst and Netwerk focus on the role that art can play in a context of urban renewal and change. The project was chosen because of the cross-policy ambition to donate the appropriate instrumentation in the development of art commissioned specifically for a city in transition. With a high level of artistic ambition, the sponsors provide space for the art to autonomously reflect the complexity and scale of the transition zone (2km along the Dender) and thereby tests the intangible potentials for art in public space.

Through their individual cooperation with an artist and a mediator, the five commissioning bodies participating in Pilot Projects are committed to having the greater project realised by late 2017. Those involved can therefore count on a far-reaching professional, substantive, artistic and procedural guidance and production framework. After a preliminary phase during the summer, in which experts are consulted for visioning the five different commissions, the mediators and artists chosen will be made known in the autumn, each with their respected projects working within the theme: ‘More than Object’.

The Pilot Projects Art in Commission are part of a process of policy development and actions centred around commissioned art and art in the public space. For the partners involved in this project, The Minister of Culture, The Flemish Government Architect Team, The Agency for Arts and Heritage, and the key support-point, BAM, this theme is a part of their operation.
